Grants Awarded in 2007-2008  

October, 2006:

Leo A. Herning Foundation Grant was awarded in the amount of $5,307 to implement a school visit program and to purchase adult and juvenile materials.  Through the grant, preschool-5th grade children will be bused to the library to check out books through the month of April, 2008.  Also, the library's book material budget will be supplemented to purchase books for patrons of all ages for research and enjoyment. 

LSTA Grant was awarded in the amount of $8,371 to implement a program, "Living Within", a program designed to encourage individuals to look within themselves for training in starting up a business, doing volunteer work in the community and for job advancement.  The program also encourages communities to look within itself for volunteers to help with the many organizations in town.  Computer workshops will be held on Word, Excel, Power Point, Digital Photo Enhancement, and Designing a Website.  Barney Brumfiel, director the Small Business Development Center, will conduct a workshop on starting up a business and creating a business plan and Jack Schultz, author of "Boomtown USA", will be contracted to speak on the keys to big success in small towns.  The grant is in cooperation with the Palestine Development Association, Palestine Chamber of Commerce and Palestine Elementary School.  The grant is funded with LSTA funds through the Illinois State Library.

December, 2007:

Mary Heath Foundation Grant was awarded in the amount of $1,416 to purchase wireless access to the Internet and a laptop for public and staff use and for overflow for the computer classes the library offers.

December, 2007:

Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Indiana, Inc. contribution was awarded in the amount of $688 to fund three programs for the Palestine Public Library's summer reading programs for preschool through 8th grade.

June, 2008:

Mary Heath Foundation Grant was awarded in the amount of $4,870 to contract 3 programs for all the libraries in Lawrence, Jasper and Crawford Counties for each library's summer reading programs.
